Maina wa Njuguna
The Kenya Diaspora Alliance – USA together with the family and friends of the legendary, and writer Prof. Ngugi Wa Thiong’o gather this coming Saturday, June 22nd, 2024 at Georgia State University (GSU) to honor the much celebrated Africa’s literally giant and pioneer.
It would be very difficult to summerize the profound accomplishments, the journey traveled by this trailblazer, an advocate for African intellectualism, culture and decolonizer of African mindsets.
Professor Ngugi wa Thiongo has taught at some of the most prestigious institutions of higher learning such as University of Nairobi, Makerere University, Northwest University, Yale University, and New York University.
His writings encompasses novels, plays, short stories, and essays, ranging from literary and social criticism to children’s literature.
Some of the novels he’s penned include: Weep Not, Child, The River Between, A Grain of Wheat, Petals of Blood, Devil on the cross (written in his native language – Kikuyu), a collection of essays – Homecoming among many other great novels.
Professor Ngugi wa Thiongo worked to see the release of Kenyan political prisoners, something he knew of first hand after suffering injustices and imprisonment for his advocacy for accountable governments and the rule of law.
