Born and raised in Petauke, Eastern Province of Zambia, Nyendwa’s journey into innovation began at a young age. He pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies at Mulungushi University, but his passion for science and technology led him to explore solutions for everyday challenges faced by African households.

His most notable invention, the Juvin Stove, is a stainless steel hybrid stove that operates on gas, electricity, and charcoal pellets. This multifunctional stove was designed to address the health risks associated with traditional cooking methods, particularly respiratory diseases caused by charcoal and wood-burning stoves. The Juvin Stove has earned global recognition, securing a place among the 1000 Efficient Solutions accredited by the World Alliance for Efficient Solutions under the Solar Impulse Foundation in Switzerland.

Nyendwa’s commitment to innovation has earned him nearly 40 international awards, including the prestigious Sir Henry Royce Award in the UK. His work has positioned AFNON as a pioneer in clean cooking technology, with a mission to reduce deforestation, mitigate climate change, and provide accessible cooking solutions across Africa.

The Landmark: Zambia’s Largest Stove Factory

In his own words, Arnold Nyendwa described the significance of the occasion: “Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests, and fellow Zambians. Yesterday I welcomed many people from various walks of life to the Ground Breaking ceremony of Africa’s largest stove factory (The Landmark factory).”

Nyendwa added, “I am honored to stand before you today as we mark a significant milestone in Zambia’s industrialization agenda. Today, we break ground on Africa’s largest stove factory, The Landmark, a 100% Zambian-owned brand.”

The Landmark Factory will be located in Kabwe, Zambia’s Central Province, on 10 hectares of land provided by Headman Sokoni. Nyendwa emphasized that this factory marks “a new era for Zambia, one that is locally driven and focused on sustainable growth.”

The factory will produce 1 million stoves per month, creating 2,500 to 3,000 jobs, and will focus heavily on exports, with 80% of the products destined for COMESA, SADC, and global markets.

Nyendwa shared that the initial investment for the factory will range from $16 to $20 million, with anticipated revenues ranging from $600 million to $1.2 billion. Additionally, AFNON has secured global manufacturing and distribution deals, enabling it to export products worldwide.

In his final remarks, Nyendwa urged support for the initiative: “I ask everyone to stand with AFNON and support us in building this dream. We have also concluded deals for 10 additional assets in China, including refrigerators, pressing irons, electric kettles, and more, with an estimated revenue of $10 billion at full installation.”
