Former Argentina striker Gonzalo Higuain on Monday announced that he will retire from football after the 2022 MLS season. He announced his retirement at a tearful press conference alongside Inter Miami head coach Phil Neville.

Starting his football career with River Plate, Higuain played for some European powerhouses such as Chelsea, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Juventus, and Napoli. He earned his name in Italy, when he helped Napoli win the Coppa Italia while setting a league record with 36 goals in a single season. Healso won three La Liga titles with Real Madrid and three Serie A titles with Juventus.

Higuain will go down as one of the best strikers of this generation, having won titles in Italy and Spain while scoring over 300 goals throughout his club career. He’s also won 75 caps for Argentina, scoring 31 goals. He helped argentina reach the 2014 World Cup final and the 2015 Copa America final. At the 2018 World Cup, his nation defeated Nigeria 2-1 in his final match.
