Aston Villa has appointed Unai Emery as their new head coach. He succeeds Steven Gerrard, who was sacked following Villa’s 3-0 Premier League defeat against Fulham last week. According to the club, Unai Emery will take over on 1st November after his work permit processes are completed.

Villa is Emery’s second Premier League team; the 50-year-old served as Arsene Wenger’s successor at Arsenal for 18 months before being fired in 2019 following seven games without a victory.

He guided Villarreal to Europa League glory in 2021, defeating Manchester United in the final, before directing them to the Champions League semi-finals last season, wherethey were defeated by Liverpool.

Prior to that, he led Sevilla to three consecutive Europa League victories between 2013 and 2016, before moving on to win Ligue 1 with Paris Saint-Germain.

Emery will be joining a Villa side who are 15th in the standings with 12 points. The club faces a tough trip to fourth-placed Newcastle United on Saturday while Emery’s first time in the dugout will be against Manchester United on 6th November at Villa Park.
