BARACK OBAMA WINS EMMY FOR NARRATING NETFLIX DOCUMENTARY

United States’ former president Barack Obama, is officially a half EGOT after winning an Emmy Award on Saturday for narrating Netflix’s documentary ‘Our Great National Parks.’

The show features wildlife and national parks from around the globe and is produced by Michelle Obama and Barack via their production company, Higher Ground.

The former president was competing against notable names in the industry including Lupita Nyong’o, Kareem Abdul-Jabbarand David Attenborough. 

Obama is the second president to ever scoop an Emmy Award after Dwight D Eisenhower bagged the first Emmy in 1956 when he was still in office.

Obama’s half EGOT status was claimed when he won two Grammy Awards for his audiobook reading of two of his memoirs, The Audacity of Hope and A Promised Land.

EGOT status refers to people who have managed to win awards in the most prestigious award ceremonies including Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. So far, only 17 people have reached the EGOT status with the most recent being Jennifer Hudson.
