Brentford defeated Liverpool with a 3-1 win for the first time since 1938 to close the gap on Jurgen Klopp’s side in the Premier League table to just two points. Despite Ivan Toney’s absence due to a leg injury, the hosts made things difficult for the Reds and won on Monday night.
At 19 minutes, Ibrahima Konate scored an own goal, and Yoane Wissa made it 2-0 just before halftime.Liverpool were fortunate to be just two goals behind at the break, as Brentford had two additional goals disallowed in the first half.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain marked his 100th league appearance for the club by nodding in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s lovely cross on the 50th minute. Liverpool were much-improved and dominated for long spells throughout the second period but could not muster an equaliser.
