Nigerian officials have urged the Indian government to guarantee the security of Nigerian students studying in the nation.

This comes after fighting between Indian and Nigerian students at Delhi’s GD Goenka University last weekend, which was brought on by a disagreement over a football game.

On Twitter, footage of the altercation has been posted.

More than 80 Nigerians were forced to flee the situation at the university’s Gurugram campus and seek sanctuary at the embassy.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, stated that “a few injuries” had been reported as a result of the incident.

However, Mrs. Dabiri stated that after a meeting between authorities from the two countries, “calm” had been restored and the Nigerian students had now returned to the school.

The Nigerian official added in a tweet that Indian authorities had made a “formal commitment to protect” Nigerian students.

Additionally, she suggested that any students who felt “threatened” contact Nigeria’s foreign representation.

According to local media, the Indian officials claimed they are looking into the event and looking at CCTV footage of the assault.

Numerous Indian colleges host thousands of African students, many of them are Nigerians.

But there have frequently been conflicts between Africans and locals.

According to local media, some Indian students objected to African students praying on a football field last month, saying they should do so inside their dorms.
