UNITED STATES – Rapper Cardi B has called out world leaders for their inaction on the Ukrainian crisis by focusing on the wrong issues.
She is known for using social media to discuss current events and celebrity gossip, as well as promote her music.
Her response came after a fan tagged her on Twitter today wondering “what she thinks about this whole Russia thing.” Russia’s military incursions into Ukraine, which have prompted world leaders including British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to announce new sanctions against Moscow, prompted the fan’s comment.
“Wish these world leaders stop tripping about power and really think about whose really getting affected (citizens) besides the whole world is in a crisis,” responded Cardi B.
“War, sanctions, invasions should be the last thing these leaders should worry about.” Several times throughout her career, Cardi B has expressed interest in politics.
The rapper has promoted campaign ideas from former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and publicly shared messages of support for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez during her run for New York Congress Representative.
A tweetstorm followed Cardi B after she tweeted earlier today, and she has since deleted her post saying, “My music reps just call me to take it down, I can’t have fun”.
Cardi B expressed interest in entering the political arena herself in 2020 with the tweet: “I think I want to be a politician… I do feel like if I go back to school and focus up I can be part of Congress.” Nevertheless, the rapper has recently steered clear of discussing social issues, saying she had grown weary of backlash from both sides.
