In a significant move within the fashion industry, Chanel recently announced Lupita Nyong’o as its newest global brand ambassador. This announcement came after Nyong’o made a stunning appearance at Chanel’s Womenswear Spring-Summer 2025 collection show, held at the Grand Palais on the final day of Paris Fashion Week.
The Oscar-winning actress and producer has been a long-time admirer and supporter of the French luxury brand, often seen wearing Chanel designs on various red carpet events.
Lupita Nyong’o’s relationship with Chanel dates back over a decade. She first wore Chanel in 2013, the same year her breakout film “12 Years a Slave” was released. Over the years, she has attended numerous Chanel events, including the fall 2023 haute couture show in Paris and the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles, where she wore a Chanel haute couture gown. Nyong’o expressed her honor and excitement about this new role, highlighting the brand’s legacy and her pride in contributing to it.

Nyong’o’s career has been marked by a series of remarkable achievements. She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “12 Years a Slave” and has since starred in major films such as “Black Panther,” the “Star Wars” saga, and “A Quiet Place: Day One.” Most recently, she voiced the lead character in DreamWorks Animation’s feature film “The Wild Robot,” which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
In addition to her acting career, Nyong’o is also an acclaimed author. Her children’s book, “Sulwe,” which addresses the issue of colorism, reached number one on The New York Times Best Sellers list in the children’s picture books category. She has also launched a weekly podcast, “Mind Your Own,” which explores the stories of African people around the world seeking love, family, and new beginnings.
Next year, she is set to return to the theater stage as Viola in Shakespeare in the Park’s summer production of “Twelfth Night,” alongside notable actors such as Peter Dinklage, Sandra Oh, and Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
Chanel’s decision to name Nyong’o as their global brand ambassador is a testament to her influence and impact in the entertainment and fashion industries. She joins a prestigious list of Chanel ambassadors, including Whitney Peak, Margot Robbie, Riley Keough, Charlotte Casiraghi, and Kristen Stewart. Nyong’o’s appointment is seen as a significant step towards greater diversity and representation in the fashion world.
Nyong’o’s journey with Chanel is not just about fashion; it is also about representation and breaking barriers. She has been inspired by figures like Bethann Hardison, a model and activist who pushed for diversity in fashion during the 1960s and 1970s. Nyong’o hopes that her role as a brand ambassador will send a powerful message to young girls, showing them that they too can occupy spaces that were once inaccessible.
In her own words, Nyong’o expressed her excitement about this new journey with Chanel, describing the brand as dynamic, feminine, and regal. She emphasized the importance of representation and the transformative impact it can have on how people see themselves and the world around them.

As she takes on this new role, Nyong’o continues to inspire and pave the way for future generations in both the entertainment and fashion industries.
