Dinamo Zagreb stunned Chelsea in their Champions League group stage debut on Tuesday , defeating the 2021 European champions 1-0 .

Zagreb had conceded in each of their league home games this year, but they managed to keep a clean sheet against the Premier League team, who have now lost three of their last five matches in all competitions.

Mislav Orsic was passed through on goal on a solo counter-attack for Zagreb, outrunning Chelsea’s new signing Wesley Fofana and beating goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga with a deft touch in the 13th minute.

After scoring their goal, the hosts retreated into a solid wall, daring their opponents to try to break down their organised defence. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made his debut  after joining Chelsea from Barcelona on transfer deadline day last Thursday. The striker struggled to make an impact in attack, despite having a goal disallowed for offside.

Dinamo Zagreb have now won only their third match in four UEFA Champions League group stage campaigns in their history. The Croatian side capitalized on Chelsea’s poor start to the season to compound the Blues’ woes.

Chelsea will look to bounce back from this defeat in Saturday’s match where they will be taking on Fulham.
