Actor and comedian Chris Rock has revealed that the Academy Awards approached him asking that he hosts next year’s Oscars for a third time, but he turned them down.
Rock made the revelation during a stand-up comedy show in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday stating that hosting the Oscars is as good as returning to a crime scene.
This comes after Rock was slapped on stage by fellow actor Will Smith for cracking a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith, who was diagnosed with alopecia.
According to Rock, returning to the Oscars would be like asking Nicole Brown Simpson to go back to the restaurant, referring to the night of OJ Simpson’s ex-wife’s murder.
Since the incident, Smith has made a public apology to Rock and resigned from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, a week before he was banned from the Oscars and other Academy events for a total of 10 years.
