Diogo Jota has signed a new five-year contract with Liverpool, as the FA and Carabao Cup winners look to increase his pay and keep him at Anfield. Jota’s previous terms were not due to expire until the summer of 2025, but he was always expected to be rewarded for his exploits with a lucrative pay rise.

The forward had three years left on the contract he signed when he joined from Wolves in 2020, but Liverpool wanted to ensure he stayed on Merseyside until 2027.

The 25-year-old has been in prolific form since joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer of 2020. In the 2021-22 season, the Portugal national had 21 goals and eight assists in 55 games across all competitions.

He undoubtedly played a key role in Liverpool’s successful season, in which they won two titles (the League Cup and the FA Cup) and finished runners-up in two others (Premier League and Champions League).

Jota came in third on the list of Liverpool players with the most goals last season, after Mohamed Salah (31 goals) and Sadio Mane (23 goals).
