Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi declared on Wednesday that Egypt would exert maximum efforts to ensure the ceasefire in Gaza is fully enforced. He emphasized his country’s commitment to rejecting violence and striving for peace while continuing mediation efforts between Israel and Hamas.

“Egypt is striving with all its power and sincere efforts to reject violence and strive for peace. The ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip is a living witness to these tireless efforts and continuous endeavours that Egypt is making alongside its partners in this regard,” el-Sissi stated.

The truce aims to halt bloodshed and improve conditions for Palestinians in Gaza, who have faced dire circumstances during the conflict. The agreement, brokered with Egypt’s significant involvement, includes the release of 33 hostages held by Hamas in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian detainees.

El-Sissi also voiced Egypt’s staunch opposition to any attempts to displace Palestinians from Gaza, warning that such actions would undermine the Palestinian cause. “We will push with all our strength to implement this agreement in full in an effort to stop the bloodshed of our Palestinian brothers and restore services to the Strip so that it becomes viable and prevent any attempts of displacement due to these difficult circumstances. This is a matter that Egypt categorically rejects to preserve the existence of the Palestinian cause itself,” he affirmed.

Egypt’s mediation reflects its pivotal role in promoting stability in the region. By facilitating dialogue between the conflicting parties and advocating for a sustainable ceasefire, Egypt aims to reduce suffering and ensure Gaza remains habitable. The restoration of services to Gaza, such as water, electricity, and healthcare, is viewed as critical to achieving long-term peace.

The ceasefire agreement stands as a testament to Egypt’s dedication to de-escalation and maintaining regional peace, underscoring its broader role as a stabilizing force in the Middle East.
