An 18-year-old technical senior high school student in Tarkwa in the Western Region of Ghana, has made a car that uses fuel.

The teenager decided to name the car ‘Never Give Up’ because of the challenges he faced while making it but persevered.

A video published on YouTube by a local outlet shows him recounting how he made the car from scratch and how long it took him to accomplish it, among other details.

He is seen in the video checking on the engine of the car before sitting behind the steering wheel with another person ahead of joining a street and driving away.

In the background of the video is a stationary police patrol car.

The person who filmed the video is heard questioning the young man, asking him questions about how and why he made the car.

In 2020, another 18-year-old junior high school graduate, Kelvin Odartey, used scrap metals to make a car.

The teenager became popular on social media after he drove the self-made car to the 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) centre to write his final paper.

African youths are defying the odds and making ground breaking innovations and changing the African narrative.

In the past week, AEM had reported the awesome invention by a Nigerian young man, Mustapha Gajibo, who, has been converting petrol minibuses to electric vehicles at his workshop, but he is now taking it a step further by designing and building solar battery-powered buses from the ground up in an effort to promote sustainable energy and reduce pollution.

The last decade has seen hundreds of tech hubs emerge across the African continent, driving innovation and providing significant employment, particularly for its youth population.
