GREECE SEEKS TO ENHANCE RELATIONS WITH LATIN AMERICA & CARIBBEAN NATIONS

ATHENS, GREECE- As he addressed the event “Latin America and Caribbean Day” on Monday, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias emphasized Greece’s desire to enhance friendly relations with Latin American and Caribbean countries.

For the second consecutive year, the event is organized under the auspices of the Foreign Ministry with the participation of the ambassadors of Latin American and Caribbean countries represented in Greece.

According to Dendias, “this initiative reaffirms the historic ties with the countries of the area and is laying the foundations for the deepening of the political cooperation. We are still far away but we have developed strong and resilient ties of friendship and solidarity”.

According to the Greek finance minister, Greece has applied to join the SICA organisation as an observer.

“Our common characteristics are a lot ‘the respect to the idea of freedom, and the struggles for the protection of human rights’. Our political and diplomatic alignment at the international fora is obvious and may extend even further because it is based on our common respect for international law.”

“Greece as an active member of the EU remains focused on the targets of sustainable growth in the context of the two future conferences for the Oceans in Panama and in Greece respectively and we have already agreed to coordinate our actions for an issue that concerns us all. The protection of the environment and the sea environment” Dendias underlined.

Dendias concluded by saying, “Greece shows and will always show its solidarity with the countries of Latin America”.
