Erling Haaland’s magnificent second consecutive hat-trick was the highlight of Manchester City’s 6-0 hammering of Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium. He set a new Premier League record for the most goals scored by a single player in their first five games in the competition.

Since this was the first encounter between the teams in 13 years, the visitors were aware from the start of what a test this game would be. For Pep Guardiola’s team, it was the evening that virtually everyone had anticipated. They were superior than freshly promoted Nottingham Forest in every way.

In the second half, Julian Alvarez added his first two Premier League goals after Joao Cancelo’s stunning goal to give the scoreboard some well-deserved sparkle.

City has now accrued 13 points out of a potential 15 to start the season and is still unbeaten, while Forest has four points after losing three of their first five games. The reigning Premier League champions travel to a struggling Aston Villa side on the weekend while Forest welcome fellow promotion winners Bournemouth to the City Ground on Saturday.
