Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur behind Tesla and SpaceX, has reportedly shown interest in purchasing Liverpool Football Club, according to his father, Errol Musk. Speaking to Times Radio, Errol Musk confirmed that the idea of owning the six-time European champions appeals to his son, but clarified it doesn’t mean a deal is imminent.
“Oh yes, but that doesn’t mean he’s buying it,” Errol Musk said. “He would like to, yes, obviously, anybody would want to. So would I.” He added, “I can’t comment on that. They’ll raise the price.”
Liverpool is currently owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG), which has denied any intention of selling the Premier League club. A spokesperson for FSG told the Associated Press, “There is no truth to these rumours.”
In September 2023, FSG sold a minority stake to U.S. investment firm Dynasty Equity. At the time, FSG president Mike Gordon reaffirmed the group’s commitment to the club, stating, “Our long-term commitment to Liverpool remains as strong as ever. If there is an investment partner right for Liverpool, we would pursue the opportunity to ensure the club’s financial resiliency and future growth.”
Under FSG, Liverpool has regained its place among Europe’s football elite. The club ended a 30-year wait for an English league title in 2020, following its Champions League triumph in 2019. This season, Liverpool is again leading the Premier League and Champions League.
Errol Musk revealed a personal connection to Liverpool, mentioning family ties to the city and acquaintances with members of The Beatles.
Beyond football, Elon Musk has made waves in British politics since the Labour Party’s election in July. Using his platform X (formerly Twitter), Musk has called for a new election and faced backlash from Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who accused him of spreading “lies and misinformation” that undermine democracy.
While Musk’s interest in Liverpool remains speculative, his financial power and global influence continue to spark curiosity about his next ventures.
