Nigerian police have arrested three suspects behind the abduction of over 100 students in the Nigerian state of Kaduna.

The trip is among another 50 suspects believed to be members of different gangs currently operating in the northwest and central Nigeria.

Frank Mba, the police spokesman said that security forces are also closely monitoring another 22 members of the gang who also executed the abduction.

The development comes even as state governments in Nigeria recruit vigilantes to help secure the area.

Gunmen ambushed the Bethel high school in Kaduna on July 5 and kidnapped over 121 students.

Part of the victims have so far been released in batches with the latest being 10 students freed days ago. Over 20 students are currently in captivity.

It is reported that parents and guardians of the kidnapped children had to Chuck huge amounts of cash as ransom to ensure their release. This is, however, yet to be confirmed.

The abduction of the students was the fourth mass abduction in Kaduna schools in the last few months.

After that similar abductions have been executed in neighboring Zamfara, Niger, and Katsina states, which have seen a downward trajectory in the security situation.

I can’t imagine the agony that comes with the loss of a child. Crime perpetrators as these should always be brought to justice!
