LeBron James, who is already a part owner of the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball, the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League, and Liverpool FC of the English Premier League, is now expanding his sports holdings by purchasing a professional pickleball team.

NBA champions Draymond Green and Kevin Love will invest in the project as well.

Pickleball, a racket sport that mixes aspects of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, is one of America’s fastest-growing sports. The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a large increase as people sought safe outdoor activities, and it has continued to expand even after pandemic-related closures and other safety precautions were reduced.

Teams in the Major League Pickleball league have four players-two men and two women -and compete against one another for cash prizes. In 2022, there were 12 teams, but the NBA stars’ new team will be part of a four-team expansion.
