Paris Saint Germain (PSG) extended their lead at the top of ligue 1 to 13 points after a convincing 5-1 win against reigning champions Lille at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy on Sunday night.
It was an entertaining match as action flowed for both sides at either ends of the pitch.
The hosts applied some pressure early on, but it would be PSG who took the lead inside 10 minutes.
Danilo Pereira was the scorer and he will never have an easier finish, with Lille goalkeeper Ivo Grbic spilling Nuno Mendes’ cross straight into his path. Les Dogues responded well to going behind and grabbed an equalizer midway through the first half.
Hatem Ben Arfa was the inspiration, dancing past Angel Di Maria before laying one on a plate for Sven Botman to sweep home.
Messi delivered a fine cross towards the back post where Presnel Kimpembe was waiting and the defender placed a shot into the net from close range, beating the goalkeeper comfortably.
Seven minutes before the break Messi delightfully chipped Grbic from 12 yards to score just his second league goal of the season.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner then went close again on the stroke of half-time when his superb free-kick crashed off the crossbar with Grbic stranded.
After the break, the momentum continued. Two further goals would follow as Leandro Paredes set up Danilo Pereira for his second of the match.
Kylian Mbappe joined in on the action to wrap up the win. He curled in a sumptuous effort from 20 yards.
