A sensational free-kick from Achraf Hakimi lifted Morocco to a 2-1 win over Malawi and into the Africa Cup of Nations Quarter Finals. It was a pulsating game between the two sides at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo.
Malawi’s Gabadinho Mhango gave his nation a shocking lead in the first half with arguably the goal of the tournament from 35 yards out. The Orlando Pirates forward took aim and his powerful, swerving shot flew past Sevilla’s Yasine Bounou in the Morocco goal and straight into the top corner. The thumping header from Youssef En Neysri and Hakimi’s set-piece booked Morocco’s place in the last eight.
