Direct flights between New York and Lagos will no longer operate, according to Delta Airlines.

The airline, which has its main office in Atlanta, Georgia, said in a statement that it made the choice to accommodate the present demand climate and that it will still run flights between Lagos and Atlanta.

“Delta is suspending its nonstop service between New York-JFK and Lagos to fit the current demand environment”…

“Customers impacted by our suspended New York-JFK to Lagos service will be reaccommodated on Delta-operated flights or services operated by our joint venture partners. Delta remains committed to the Nigeria market.”

AEM had reported that Dubai’s Emirates Airline in mid-August suspended its flights to Nigeria over an inability to repatriate funds to the tune of $85m.

Earlier in June, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) said that the Nigerian government was keeping $450 million that foreign airlines operating there had earned.

The Association of International Airlines and Representatives in Nigeria encouraged the country’s top bank to promptly release the monies that had been trapped after the Central Bank of Nigeria revealed last Friday that $265 million had been released to foreign airlines.
