Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah has been named the Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year for the 2024 to 25 season, earning the prestigious accolade for the third time in his career. The Egyptian talisman claimed nearly 90% of the votes from over 900 football journalists, the largest winning margin in recent memory.

At 32, Salah joins Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as the only players to win the award three times, cementing his place among the Premier League’s all-time greats. His outstanding form this season helped propel Liverpool to their 20th English league title, equaling Manchester United’s historic record.

Salah has been in electric form throughout the campaign, tallying 28 goals and 18 assists. His 46 direct goal contributions leave him just one shy of the all-time Premier League record for a single season. Remarkably, he also set a new league milestone by becoming the first player to both score and assist in 37 different matches, surpassing the previous record held by Wayne Rooney.

Liverpool’s title charge was defined by Salah’s relentless consistency and leadership. The Reds led the league for 234 days and went on a 26 match unbeaten streak, with Salah playing a decisive role in nearly every fixture. His clinical finishing, vision, and work ethic have once again made him the centerpiece of Jürgen Klopp’s side.

Having recently signed a contract extension with Liverpool in April, Salah remains a central figure in the club’s future. He is also a top contender for the Premier League Player of the Season and the Players’ Player of the Year awards.

The FWA awards ceremony will take place in London on May 22, where Salah will be honored alongside Arsenal’s Alessia Russo, who won the women’s Footballer of the Year title after a stellar season.
