Mohamed Salah scored a first-half double as Liverpool ended their wait for a first Premier League away win of the season with a 2-1 victory at Tottenham.

Salah was the inspiration, sweeping home a sharp left-foot finish from Darwin Nunez’s pass after 11 minutes, then capitalizing on Eric Dier’s misplaced headed back-pass to double Liverpool’s lead five minutes before the break with great composure.

Kane fired Tottenham back into the game in the 70th minute by finishing from a tight angle to set up the chance of a comeback. Despite intense pressure in the final stages, Liverpool held on to take all three points home.

This was a first Premier League win in three Premier League matches for Liverpool after being stunned by Nottingham and Forest and Leeds United, moving them into eighth spot.

The Liverpool manager could not hide his relief at the final whistle, celebrating in front of the traveling fans. Spurs have now lost seven of the previous nine Premier League games between the two teams and have not defeated Liverpool since 2017.

As a result of yet another costly loss to a top-four opponent, the outcome will raise more questions about Antonio Conte’s team’s capacity to compete at the top of the table. Tottenham were without South Korean forward Son Heung-min, who suffered a fracture around his left eye in his team’s midweek Champions League win over Marseille.
