Serena Williams is all set to return to action as the 23-time grand slam winner has announced her comeback to Wimbledon 2022. Notably, Serena Williams will be making a comeback at the international level after 12 months of absence. She last played at Wimbledon 2021 where she suffered a first round exit at the grass court slam with an injury.

The 40-year-old sparked a frenzy on social media on Tuesday when she posted a photo of herself on Instagram, wearing grass-court shoes on a grass court, saying: “SW and SW19. It’s a date. 2022 See you there. Let’s go #renasarmy“.

Shortly after, Wimbledon released its initial list of wildcards, with the seven-time champion and 23-time Grand Slam champion confirmed as an entrant into the women’s singles.

She won the last of her seven Wimbledon singles titles in 2016, but reached the final in 2018 and 2019 after returning from having a baby. Founded in 1877, Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam that is still played on grass, which is the game’s tradition. The 135th edition of the tournament will be held from June 27 to July 10.
