Mohamed Salah’s spectacular second-half goal gave Liverpool a 1-0 victory over Manchester City on Sunday. He shook off Joao Cancelo following a punt from goalkeeper Alisson to race clear and beat Man City’s goalie Ederson with a composed finish.
He ended the champions’ undefeated start to the Premier League season denying Pep Guardiola’s team the chance of emulating Arsenal’s 2004 Invincibles by going through a season without defeat. This was not to be Haaland’s day, Erling Haaland’s incredible goal scoring streak came to an end. Haaland had scored in each of his last 10 games in all competitions.
In a frantic finale, tempers boiled over and Klopp was sent off by referee Anthony Taylor for his protests after he felt Salah was fouled.
Man City’s loss to Liverpool is their first league defeat of the season, having won seven and drawn two of their opening 10 games. The Blues remain in second place in the table, four points behind league leaders Arsenal. As for Liverpool, they move to eighth place after picking up their third league win of the campaign.
