Six months after being hired as the Super Eagles’ head coach, Jose Peseiro is yet to receive a single paycheck from his employers, the Nigeria Football Federation.
The 62-year-old tactician is now being owed $420,000 in total by the NFF. The former Saudi Arabia coach was appointed in May 2022 on a monthly pay of $70,000.
Coaches have been caught in the web of unpaid salaries in Nigeria before. Under current FIFA laws, the former Porto coach can unilaterally terminate his contract, without prejudice, and will have to be paid in full.
The NFF are currently paying off the backlog of outstanding salaries of former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr after unilaterally terminating his contract last December.
The football governing body also owes outstanding bonuses to players on both the senior men’s and women’s teams.
Players on the Super Eagles are upset about unpaid bonuses and allowances dating back to 2021, while the Super Falcons are still waiting for the NFF and Sports Ministry to settle outstanding debts from the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and other training camps.
