According to a statement released on Tuesday, December 6th 2022, the Pakistani Supreme Court has constituted a team of five judges to supervise a probe into the shooting to death of a well-known investigative journalist in Kenya.
The Police in the nation in East Africa shot and killed Arshad Sharif in October after what they said was a case of mistaken identification but the Pakistani government termed it as a “targeted murder.”
Since Mr. Sharif was a well-known opponent of the Pakistani military, the Asian nation was incensed by his murder. The court willingly took on the case, and chief judge Umar Atta Bandyal will preside over the five-person panel.
The Pakistani ministries of foreign affairs and interior, as well as the Federal Investigation Agency, were consulted, the court claimed in a statement (FIA).
The move has been praised by opposition leader Fawad Chaudhry, who tweeted that “people expect the Supreme Court and judges to stand up for the rule of law and protect human rights.”
