South African comedian Trevor Noah, will officially be stepping down as the host of Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, in pursuit of more stand-up work.

Noah who has hosted the show for seven years revealed his decision to step down while hosting the show on Thursday night.

According to Noah, he had missed being on the road doing stand-up comedy shows and learning new languages as well as exploring.

“It’s been absolutely amazing. It’s something that I never expected,” Noah said of his experience hosting the show. “I found myself thinking throughout the time of everything we’ve gone through. The Trump presidency, the pandemic, just the journey, more pandemic and I realize that after the seven years, my time is up,” he said.

The 38-year-old expressed his gratitude to his viewers, team and Comedy Central for believing in him and joining him through his journey which began in 2015.

I’ve loved hosting this show, it’s been one of my greatest challenges and one of my greatest joys,” Noah said.

“I’ve loved trying to find a way to make people laugh, even when the stories are particularly s***y, even on the worst days. We’ve laughed together, we’ve cried together.”
