Oscar winning actor, Will Smith’s new movie ‘Emancipation’ is set to premier on December 2 and the actor says that he totally understands if people are not ready to watch the film after the Oscars incident that saw him slap fellow actor, Chris Rock.

In an interview with Fox 5 DC reporter Kevin McCarthy, Smith expressed that he understands that some people need time to heal but he is concerned for his team and everyone who worked to bring the film to life adding that he does not want his actions to affect their hard work.

I completely understand that if someone is not ready, I would absolutely respect that and allow them their space to not be ready,” he said. “My deepest concern is my team — [director Antoine Fuqua] has done what I think is the greatest work of his entire career.”

Smith revealed that the film is some of the best work that his team has done and is worried that his actions could deny them the recognition that they deserve.

“I’m hoping that the material, the power of the film, the timeliness of the story, I’m hoping that the good that can be done would open people’s hearts at a minimum to see and recognize and support the incredible artists in and around this film,” said Smith.

Smith stars as Peter in Emancipation, a man whose escape from slavery forces him to rely on his wits, unwavering faith and deep love for his family as he runs from slave hunters and through Louisiana on his journey toward freedom.
