WIZKID’S ‘MADE IN LAGOS’ MAKES AFRICAN HISTORY IN U.S WITH GOLD CERTIFICATION

King of afro music Ayodeji Ibrahim ‘Wizkid’ Balogun, has made history yet again as he’s produced the very first African album to go gold in the United States thanks to ‘Made in Lagos’.

The afro star’s fourth studio album is truly a classic as it continues to sell worldwide, almost two years after its release date in October, 2020.

‘Made in Lagos’ has sold over 500,000 copies in the U.S alone earning him a gold plaque from the Recording Industry Association of America. The most successful song on the album, ‘Essence’ featuring Tems, has enjoyed massive support worldwide.

The album was also nominated for the most prestigious awards in music, The Grammy Awards. He was nominated in 2022 for the category ‘Global Music Album’ along with his track ‘Essence’ for ‘Global Music Performance’ but did not scoop the awards for either of the categories.

‘Essence’ earned Wizkid and Tems their first ever BET award, making them the first ever African artistes to win a BET award for the ‘Best Collaboration’ category.

‘Made in Lagos’ has 14 songs and features noteable artistes such as: Burna Boy, Skepta, H.E.R., Ella Mai, Tay Iwar, Projexx, Tems and Terri.
