Of all the awards that players compete for at the FIFA World Cup, the one that consistently demands the most attention is the Golden Boot.

The Golden Boot is awarded to the highest-scoring player at the FIFA World Cup. If two players are equal, the one with the most assists will win it. If two or more players are still equal, the one who has played the fewest minutes will triumph.

Harry Kane scooped up the Golden Boot at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, but who will take home the coveted prize this time around? It’s a three-horse race for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot.

Kylian Mbappe with five goals is presently leading the race to win the Golden Boot at the FIFA World Cup 2022. Club team-mate Lionel Messi is one behind him on four after scoring his fourth of the tournament against the Netherlands in a dramatic semi-final. Olivier Giroud is alongside Messi, as he netted the winner against the Three Lions and continues to take full advantage of Karim Benzema’s absence.

If Mbappé holds onto the lead, he’ll become the first Frenchman to ever win the award. If either one of Lionel Messi, 35, or Olivier Giroud, 36, win the award, they’ll become the oldest players to win the award.

The semi-finals get underway on Tuesday as Croatia take on Argentina and Morocco on the following day of the 2022 World Cup against France.
