American rapper Snoop Dogg has officially bought the record label that launched his rap career, Death Row Records.

According to a press release from Business Wire, Snoop purchased the label from MNRK Music Group which is controlled by private equity Blackstone. The amount that he paid is yet to be disclosed.

“I am thrilled and appreciative of the opportunity to acquire the iconic and culturally significant Death Row Records brand, which has immense untapped future value,” Snoop Dogg said, according to the release.

“We are excited to put the Death Row Records brand back in the hands of a legend like Snoop Dogg we wish him success in the years ahead as the brand moves forward under his leadership and vision,” said David Kestnbaum, a senior Managing Director at Blackstone.

Death Row was arguably the most powerful record label back in the 90’s in the world of Hip Hop and grossed at a whooping $100 million.

It also birthed and flourished the careers of prominent rappers such as the late Tupac Shakur, Nate Dogg, Tha Dogg Pound, Dr. Dre and Snoop himself.
