South African rapper Rikhado Muziwendlovu Makhado better known as Ricky Rick died by suicide on Wednesday, February 23 at his home in Johannesburg.
The rapper’s family shared the devastating news with Drum Magazine. Ricky had allegedly been battling depression which resulted in him hanging himself.
“Affectionately known as Riky Rick across the globe, he was deeply loved by his family, friends and the entire entertainment industry. His love for family, friends, and community is well known,” read the statement.
“Riky’s nurturing and developing of young musical talent is well documented and will forever be remembered,” it continued.
Ricky who was a husband and father of two left a cryptic message on Twitter at 4:20 AM on the day he died.
“I’ll return a stronger man. This land is not my home.” Read the tweet.
The rapper was the founder and owner of Cotton Club Records and joined the industry back in 2015. He then released his album Family Values which was certified platinum.
