The Senegalese team alias Lions of Teranga will meet Burkina Faso in Wednesday’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals after squeezing past Equatorial Guinea on Sunday evening.

Sadio Mane was central to Senegal’s opener, the Liverpool forward carving open Equatorial Guinean’s defense with a beautifully weighted pass to usher in Famar Diedgiou who scored the opener.

He then conceded a surprise equalizer to Jannick Buyla only for substitutes Cheikhou Kouyate and Ismaila Sarr to come and restore Senegal’s lead and put the result beyond doubt.

Senegal was unable to add any more goals despite dominating the first half and found themselves in a sticky situation five minutes after resumption.

They had a penalty awarded against them when a pass from Iban Salvador struck Captain Kalidou Koulibally on the hand, but referee Victor Gomes changed his mind after reviewing his decision on the pitch side VAR screen.

Equatorial Guinea’s journey comes to an end, but they can hold their heads high after a memorable tournament in which they defeated defending champions Algeria and knocked out Mali.
