Arsenal ran riot against Nottingham Forest as they charged back to the top of the Premier League with a 5-0 victory. Arsenal opened the scoring with their first attack of the game with Forest’s game plan going out of the window within five minutes.
Gabriel Martinelli gave the hosts an early lead and then three quick-fire goals at the start of the second half. Two from Reiss Nelson and one from Thomas Partey to put Arteta’s side in cruise control.
A thumping finish from Captain Martin Odegaard then put the seal on a near-perfect day for Arsenal.
Arsenal move to 31 points from their 12 games, two ahead of Manchester City, while an outclassed Forest remain rooted to the bottom of the table with nine points having played a game more. Arsenal’s next Premier League fixture is a trip across London to Chelsea next Sunday, while Forest host Brentford the day before.
Forest have already put on some horror shows this season, conceding six goals at Manchester City and losing 4-0 at struggling Leicester, and this is another to add to the list. Arsenal’s swaggering display exorcised their recent defensive improvements.
