Bayern Munich are into the Champions League quarter-finals for the fourth consecutive season after seeing off Paris Saint-Germain by a 3-0 aggregate score-line in the last 16. PSG, meanwhile, have failed to get past this stage for the fifth time in seven years.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting swept home just after the hour mark for the hosts against his former club, with Serge Gnabry adding the gloss to a professional display late on. A glance at the Bayern bench just shows how strong the Bundesliga champions are and if they avoid injuries it will take a special side to knock them out of their stride.

With PSG still never having lifted the Champions League trophy in the club’s history, the 2023 defeat is just the latest early exit in a long string of poor results abroad. While their yearly demise has often come against big clubs like Manchester City, Bayern, and Barcelona, they must find a way to beat the best in order to be the best. Until then, they remain a punchline amongst the rest of Europe’s elite.

The draw for the last eight of the competition will take place on 17 March in Nyon, Switzerland.
