The Brazilian club Santos, in which ex-soccer player Edson Arantes do Nascimento “Pelé” was immortalized and remains the greatest idol , will wear a crown stamped on its uniform as a tribute. The former soccer player has been hospitalized for almost a month in Sao Paulo due to his deteriorating state of health.
Santos temporarily added a crown above their badge in 2019 to commemorate Pele’s 79th birthday, but it was removed at the end of the season. This time, the change has been written into the club’s Articles of Incorporation, which means the crown will be an official component of the club badge, and it can also be applied to older versions if a retro crest is used on their shirts in the future. The change will be permanent and is a homage to Pele, who many consider the greatest footballer of all time.
Pele will undoubtedly be grateful to be honored in this way, judging by the volume of pictures of the man wearing various crowns that are available online.
