Gareth Bale ,one of the greatest Welsh players of all time, who won five Champions League titles, has retired at the age of 33. He has stepped away from the game midway through his contract at Los Angeles FC, which was due to expire this summer.
The former Real Madrid winger confirmed the news in an emotional social media post on Monday where he thanked everyone he has worked with over his 16-year professional career. Given Bale’s age and the fact that he had only recently begun a new adventure in Major League Soccer with Los Angeles FC, it was somewhat surprising, but it was also half-expected.
Bale reflected on his football achievements in January 2023 and decided: that’s enough. Five Champions League titles, three La Liga titles, and 41 goals in 111 international games for his country.
He has served as his country’s talisman , guiding Wales to only their second-ever World Cup appearance in the 2022 Qatar World Cup and helping them go to the quarterfinals of EURO 2016.
Scoring some incredible goals along the way, Bale will always be known for that incredible bicycle kick goal against Liverpool in the Champions League football.
