Senegal’s victorious Africa Cup of Nations squad, led by match-winner Sadio Mane, were given a rousing welcome home as crowds of fans gathered in capital city Dakar.
Tens of thousands of jubilant fans packed the streets of Senegal’s capital Dakar on Monday to welcome the national squad home after its Africa Cup of Nations win.
Fans waving scarves and flags mobbed the team bus and tried to get a photo of their heroes as they cruised through the city.
As the bus snaked its way through the crowd, the players could be seen at the top of the bus drinking in the joyous celebration.
The sheer weight of numbers present at the parade showed what the victory meant to the people of Senegal.
It was a long-awaited victory for the West African country that fell to Algeria in the last Cup of Nations final in 2019. Senegal also reached the tournament’s final stage in 2002, but lost to Cameroon.
