Charles Polevich, has been sentenced to only one year in prison, for killing Nicki Minaj’s father, Robert Maraj, in a hit and run accident.
Maraj, was killed back in February 2021, when he was walking Mineola, Long Island, in the evening. He got struck by a 1992 Volvo Station Wagon.
According to Nassau County Police Detective Steven Fitzpatrick, Polevich was seen getting out of his car as soon as the incident happened, looked at Maraj, then hopped back into his car where he sped off and hid his car, leaving Maraj behind without even dialing 911.
Maraj was rushed to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. However, police were able to track down his killer, thanks to CCTV footage.
Polevich’s attorney, Marc Gann, however defended his client stating that he has medical heart issues which could have contributed to his misconduct.
“Mr Polevich is extremely remorseful for any role he may have played in Mr. Maraj’s death. There are no allegations of substance use or abuse as causative of his conduct and it is our belief that a medical heart issue contributed to Mr. Polevich’s conduct,” said Gann.
Polevich will now spend a year in jail, which is considered to a short-term considering he murdered Maraj and hid the evidence, he will also be fined $5,000 and will lose his driver’s license for a period of six months.
