Manchester United bounced back from two straight Premier League defeats with a 2-1 victory over rivals Liverpool. Without Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo, United appeared sharp in possession and hungry out of it. The team took the lead, surprisingly but completely deservingly.

That was a victory that will provide Erik Ten Hag, the manager under pressure, with some relief. High-intensity pressing, strong defending, and spectacular play from the Red Devils led to some outstanding goals.

After a masterful one-two between Elanga and Christian Eriksen, Sancho calmly slid the ball past James Milner and into the goal after the Liverpool defense was breached in the 16thminute.

United doubled their advantage through Marcus Rashford in the 53rd minute, Jordan Henderson’s sloppy touch gave Anthony Martial possession, and his perfect through ball set Rashford free to score his first goal since January, exposing Liverpool’s lack of energy in the middle of the field.

Mohamed Salah scored a late consolation with a close-range header after David de Gea denied Fabio Carvalho. It was too little too late as Liverpool suffered their first defeat of the season.

It’s up to United to put together a string of similarly valiant performances, beginning at Southampton the following weekend.
