Argentina and Paris St-Germain forward Lionel Messi has been named men’s player of the year at the 2022 Best Fifa Awards. Messi beat PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid attacker Karim Benzema to the accolade, and was also voted into the FIFA FIFPRO Men’s World XI alongside the two Frenchmen.
It’s another individual award for Messi’s bulging collection. He previously won the prize in 2019 and has seven Ballon d’Or trophies.
The Argentina star pulled out a set of career-defining performances during the World Cup in Qatar late last year, helping the South Americans win the title for the first time since 1986.
Messi has also been in excellent form for Paris Saint-Germain this season, scoring 17 goals in all competitions, including the 700th of his career in victory over Marseille at the weekend.
