Eric Bailly missed a penalty as Egypt beat Ivory Coast in a shootout to book their place in the Quarter-finals of the Africa cup of Nations following a 0-0 draw.

Goalless after 120 minutes, it all came down to who could hold their nerve from the spot. Nicolas Pepe scored the first goal of the shootout. This was followed by three well taken penalties, two from Egypt’s Zico and Amr Al Sulaya and Ivory Coast’s Ibrahim Sangare.

The turning point came when Eric Bailly missed his penalty to give the advantage to the Egyptians. Eric Bailly opted to take his penalty with the Jorginho-style shuffle only to see his tame effort comfortably stopped by Gabaski.
