Liverpool’s forward Mohamed Salah has been named the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) Player of the Year for the second time. The Egyptian forward had a stellar season helping spearhead Liverpool’s quest for a quadruple that eventually fell short.

The PFA award is voted for by current and former professional footballers, and Salah has once again impressed his peers above all others in the Premier League.

Salah was named on a six-man shortlist with Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Kevin De Bruyne, Harry Kane and Cristiano Ronaldo, and emerged as the player with the most votes.

The Egyptian was in sparkling form for Liverpool throughout the season and ended the Premier League campaign with the most goals and assists. Salah shared the Golden Boot with Spurs’ Son Heung-min after netting 23 goals, while he also chalked up 14 assists.

He is now only one of nine players in PFA Award History to have won the award twice, joining Mark Hughes, Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Lucy Bronze, Kevin De Bruyne and Fran Kirby.

The 29-year-old Egyptian is currently engaged in a transfer stand-off with his club. He has one year left on his current deal but has been linked with a free transfer move to Barcelona, and other clubs, at the end of the forthcoming season.
