SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO-   The first model with Down’s syndrome to walk Victoria’s Secret runway is Sofia Jirau, 25, from Puerto Rico.

Jirau took to her Instagram account to announce that she will be taking part in the Love Cloud campaign, advertising the brand’s everyday underwear collection.

Jirau’s career has been gaining momentum since she debuted at New York Fashion Week in February 2020, drawing the attention of the fashion industry throughout the outbreak.

As she celebrated her campaign, Jirau said: “One day I dreamed of it, I worked on it and today it is a dream come true. I can finally tell you my big secret I am the first Victoria’s Secret model with Down’s syndrome.”

In a black and white photo showing her modeling a bra from the brand, she added: “Thank to all of you for always supporting me with my projects.”. Thanks to @victoriassecret for seeing me as a #NoLimits model and making me part of the Love Cloud Collection inclusion campaign.

This is just the beginning, now it’s formed.”

Her brand is inspired by the English phrase “I love it”: “There are no limits, Alavett,” she said.

Her No Limits campaign, called Sin Limites, with the goal of raising awareness of Down’s syndrome, is one of her passions outside of modeling.

In the past few years, Victoria’s Secret has taken several initiatives in an effort to regain credibility faced with declining sales and allegations of misogyny.

As part of its recent moves, the company released its first mastectomy bra, featured racially diverse models promoting underwear with different skin tones, and hired transgender beauty Valentina Sampaio after criticism for its lack of diversity.

TV star Jameela Jamil recently dubbed Victoria’s Secret a ‘transphobic, fatphobic company that tries to exclude women of the average size’. Shop closures and the cancellation of the company’s high-profile catwalk showcase have added to its woes in recent years.
