UNITED KINGDOM- In the coming week, about 900 workers at an Amazon warehouse in Coventry will strike over a pay dispute, the British labour union GMB announced Saturday.

GMB said in an emailed statement to a news agency said that the strike at the warehouse will take place from July 11 to 13. The union plans to strike for two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening each of the three days. The event coincides with the company’s “Prime Day” sales event scheduled for July 11 and 12.

“GMB members in Coventry have time and time again shown that this fight will only end with GBP15 (USD19.25) an hour and union rights,” GMB Senior Organiser Rachel Fagan said.

The world’s largest e-commerce company, Amazon, said its minimum starting salary ranges from GBP11 to 12 per hour, depending on the region.

According to Amazon’s email, Coventry does not directly process customer orders and there will be no disruption to customers.

Coventry warehouse workers voted last month to continue striking for six months. As well as last month, workers went on strike from June 12 to 14.

According to JPMorgan, Amazon is expected to generate about USD7 billion in revenue from Prime Day sales, an increase of 12 percent from last year’s Prime Day results.

The inflationary pressures in Britain have prompted strikes in a number of industries in recent months, including nursing, teaching, and transportation.

In a long-running dispute over pensions, job cuts and working conditions, the London Underground staff will strike July 23-28, according to the RMT union.
