A week after the Burkina Faso military seized power in a coup, regional bloc African Union (AU) has suspended the West African nation.

It has been revealed that the country will be barred from all AU activities until constitutional order has been restored.

The West African regional bloc, Ecowas, which suspended Burkina Faso last week, has already sent a delegation to the capital Ouagadougou.

It is set to join a team from the United Nations for talks with the new military leaders.

Last week, the new Burkina Faso military leader Lieutenant Colonel Paul-Henri Damiba vowed a return to the  “when the conditions are right”.

“When the conditions are right, according to the deadline that our people will define in all sovereignty, I commit to a return to a normal constitutional order,” he said.

The speech came days after toppling  President Roch Kaboré last Monday. He accused the head of state of failing to contain violence by Islamist militants.
