Jacob Kiplimo, a long distance runner from Uganda, won the men’s 10000m Commonwealth title on Tuesday night in Birmingham at the Alexander Stadium.

Kiplimo won Uganda’s second gold medal at the Commonwealth Games with a championship record time of 27:09.19, adding to Victor Kiplangat’s marathon victory.

The 21 year old long distance runner beat stiff competition from three Kenyans including Kibiwott Kandie, Daniel Ebenyo and Edward Zakayo Pingua. Kenya’s Ebenyo finished second in 27:11.26 while his fellow countryman Kibiwott Kandie claimed bronze in 27:20.34.

“I think for me winning this Commonwealth Games title was everything, the most important thing for me this season. But I still have a lot of things to do in the future at the Olympics and world championships,” the 21 year old Kiplimo said.

Kiplimo who will be turning 22 in November this year has now won 8 major championship medals in 7 years. Uganda has won the men’s 10,000-meter race at every Commonwealth Games since 2006
