LEDE: Following a military coup in Burkina Faso 🇧🇫 , the West African union will determine whether to apply more sanctions.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government has held another Extraordinary Summit to discuss the political situation in Burkina Faso. The Summit will take place on Thursday, February 3, 2022, in Accra.
After the country’s coup d’état on January 24, 2022, the Heads of State convened an Extraordinary Summit on January 28, 2022. Following the Summit, the Authority dispatched a high-level ECOWAS Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff mission to have talks with the Military Leaders.
Following that, a Joint Ministerial Mission led by the Chairperson of the Council of Ministers was dispatched to analyze the country’s political condition and make recommendations to the Authority of Heads of State.
The Heads of State will consider and discuss reports from these high-level missions during the Extraordinary Summit.
The meeting will evaluate the report of the ECOWAS delegation dispatched to Quagadougou to meet with the military junta that recently seized control in Burkina Faso, as part of the resolutions agreed at last week’s virtual meeting headed by Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo.
